Additive manufacturing

Additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D printing technologies promise full freedom in fabricating arbitrarily complex shapes in different scales. The inventory of materials that can be implemented for this purpose continues to increase, extending the possible range of products and applications. Our primary research interest is in the area of different AM techniques, numerical simulation of the AM manufacturing processes, finite element modeling of mechanical behavior of AM parts, analytical derivation of relationships aimed for prediction of mechanical properties of AM parts, and experimental investigation of their mechanical properties under static and fatigue loads. Our general research question is how to improve the quality of the products made by AM by modifying the manufacturing parameters of the currently available AM machines, adjusting micro- and macro-geometrical designs of the to-be-made parts, developing new AM techniques to improve or adjust the mechanical properties of AM parts, etc.
